Frame basket weaving workshop

Sunday 22nd March 2026, £90

Join weaver Glenys Newton to make your own frame basket in the garden of garden designer Liesbeth ten Ham.

You will be using some of the willow and other natural resources grown there while learning about willow, how to grow it, the soaking process and some history of basket making. You will also be able to take home some cuttings of willow to grow in your own garden.

For more than ten thousand years humans have been making baskets using local materials. The earliest evidence of human made baskets comes from upper Egypt and the Judeo dessert which predates pottery.

Glenys Newton is a story teller, writer and basketmaker in North Essex. She gives weaving workshops in hospitals, schools, community groups and prisons as well as in her workshop. She sells her baskets at local markets.  Follow her on Instagram here.

Liesbeth ten Ham has been running her gardening and garden design business Purple Flowers Gardens and Mosaics since 2019. She takes part annually in the local open garden scheme. In March her garden will be full of spring flowers.

The workshop will run from 10-4pm in Girton, Cambridge. The cost includes all materials, tea, coffee and cake but do bring your own lunch.
